Music is my passion, it soothes my soul. When I listen to a variety of songs there are some that I feel more than others. When I was in Desert Storm I listened to some of my favorite songs by Tina Turner, Otis Redding, and especially Bill Withers. His song Lean on Me helped me in times of knowing that I was being carried by loved ones back home.
Sometimes in life we may hope to have that special friend that will be there for you in good times and bad. The weary times of life are not as weary as we think because of the helpful hands of others that to be strong and to lean on. Special friends understand but you know you are never alone when life tosses you around. Knowing there is hope in their hearts for you when danger of darkness is all around in the desert.
Friends and their letters of love kept carrying me when I couldn’t carry myself. Prayers, letters and knowing I had my family’s support always brought a smile on my face. During the days of eating the sand, fighting off the scorpions and camel spiders I still kept my spirit high. It was the letters of friends and loved ones that kept me knowing everything was going to be alright. They carried my soul with love from far away until I reached home once again from another duty overseas.

I had heard that desert storm took some people down a road that they never wanted to go. Nevertheless, I commend you on how you brought back a memory, a positive memory that kept you going through those times. How you turned a not so good time into a time of joy within yourself. I take my hat off to you. Now in the times that you are here, at home and the darkness of the desert try’s to overtake you, draw from that memory well that kept you going. Let the songs of that memory take you to that place where everything is alright.
